Samuel Ortom Sworn In As The Governor Of Benue State For A Second Term

The governor who was sworn-in alongside his deputy, Benson Abounu on Wednesday by Justice Ondaver Kaaka at IBB square, Makurdi promised that he would be governor of all the people of the state. He also said that his second term of office would be payback time for giving him second term ticket.

Ortom who touched on all sectors noted that he was determined more than ever before to pay back the love and support the people of the state have shown him.

According to him: “No matter the temporary set back in the economy, now is payback time to the good citizens of Benue people.”Our current situation is not our final destination, strength does not come from what you can do, strength comes from overcoming the things you thought you could not do,” Ortom said.

Governor Samuel Ortom Reveals His Second Term Agenda

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has revealed the number of indigenes and citizens killed by armed herdsmen from January 2018 till date.

Ortom who made the revelation after taking the oath of office for the second time lamented that the state had witnessed large-scale violence perpetrated by armed herdsmen resulting in several deaths and destruction of properties.

According to him, “between January 2018 and today, armed herdsmen have killed about 700 people in Benue State. There are now about 180,000 Internally Displaced Persons, in eight IDPs camps located in Guma, Logo, Agatu and Makurdi local government areas. Besides, over 500,000 are living in uncompleted buildings and in host communities.

“The challenge now is how to get the displaced persons back to their ancestral homes as there are still sporadic attacks by the herdsmen. The situation is also a major threat to food security as we are already in another cropping season.

Samuel Ortom Signs State Pensions Scheme Bill Into Law

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has signed a state Pensions Scheme bill and three other bills into law.

Naija News learnt that the governor signed the four bills into law before proceeding to the venue of his inauguration for the second term.

Another bill signed into law was the bill for the establishment of Benue State Contributory Pensions Scheme in order to address the challenge of payment of pensions and gratuities of retirees.

Also assented to was the bill for a law to provide for the Administration of Criminal Justice in courts in the state and for purposes connected therewith.

The governor also signed a bill for a law to prohibit all forms of violence against persons in private and public lives, provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders and for purposes connected therewith.

Benue News: Samuel Ortom Begs Buhari To Establish North Central Development Commission

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has pleaded with the APC led Government to establish the North Central Development Commission to tackle the herdsmen-farmers crisis in the region.

Ortom who made the plea yesterday in Markurdi said the commission will be able to rebuild and reconstruct infrastructures in states ravaged by the herdsmen-farmers crisis.

Ortom says: “If today we have the North East Development Commission, we should also have the North Central Development Commission, because the level of killing, looting and destruction of property in Benue state and other parts the North Central is actually more than what you have in the North East where you have a commission.

“We need urgent reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the North Central because our schools, homes, hospitals, markets and farms have all been destroyed. You people have been visiting these villages and communities and can confirm what I’m saying.
