Nigerians Call Buhari’s Inauguration ‘Stolen Mandate’
Some Nigerians on Wednesday, May 29, referred to the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari as a “Stolen Mandate” in what appears to be a support for Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party.
Naija News recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared President Muhammadu Buhari who participated in the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, winner of the February 23 Presidential election.
The commission had said figures from the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) gave Buhari 15,191,847 votes, while Atiku came second with 11,262,978 votes.
Challenging the results at the election tribunal in his 139-page petition, Abubakar said the results from INEC server showed he polled 18,356,732 votes to defeat Buhari who had 16,741,430 votes.
Though the case is still in the court of law, President Buhari was, however, inaugurated today at the Eagle Square in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Moments, after the President took the oath of office, Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to call the President’s inauguration a “Stolen Mandate“.
Naija News captured some of the reactions below…
Have you EVER seen an entire nation so disinterested and sombre on a day a new administration is to be inaugurated?
If this was the Will Of The People rather than a #StolenMandate , wouldn't there be some excitement?
Do you see people excitedly talking about their expectations?

When Buhari came into power petrol was N87, Dollar was 180, spaghetti was N80 after his mandate Petrol is N145, Dollar is N360.
Now with #StolenMandate only God knows our destination as we are hopeless, Buhari cannot give what he doesn't have
But our prayer is #AtikuIsComing

4 YEARS OF NO CLUES
1. Of how modern economy works.
2. How democracy works.
3. Of how to govern a heterogeneous society like Nigeria.
4. Of how to integrate a Nation.
Who is clueless personified!

Could it be that the “Undertaker” does not understand PROTOCOLS or he was just trying to push his luck too far?
That’s what #StolenMandate does to you.

Majority of Nigerians knows and agreed that today's Presidential inauguration is a product of #StolenMandate.
The reign is most likely to be short lived because #AtikuIsComing.

He stole the whole democracy in 1983 & at the end he was toppled by the same military he used in 1983.
He did the same in 2019 thereby canniving with INEC to rig us, he would be sworn in today but #AtikuIsComing to retrieve his #StolenMandate.

The last Presidential election is no doubt not a true reflection of the will of the Nigerian people except of course that of those whose love is for mediocre leaders.
We keep the hope alive that the #StolenMandate will be retrieved and Nigerians will once again be proud.— Omolara-Busolami🥰 (@TaiwoBusolami) May 29, 2019
