Supreme Court Asked To Transfer Buhari’s Power Ahead Inauguration

One of the political parties that participated in the February 23 presidential election, Hope Democratic Party (HDP) has asked the Supreme Court to transfer President Muhammadu Buhari’s power to the Senate President or the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Naija News reports that the political party made this known in a notice of appeal filed to the Supreme Court on Friday, May 24.

In the notice, HDP prayed the Supreme Court to stop the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari slated for Wednesday, May 29.

HDP prayed the apex court to direct the Senate President or the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to take over the rein of power pending the time all issues arising from the last election would be fully resolved.

It also prayed for another order setting aside the ruling of justice, Joseph Ikyegh which on May 22, refused to stop the inauguration of Buhari.

HDP’s appeal to the Supreme Court comes in just two days to the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari who is expected to be sworn-in as President to pilot the affairs of the state come Wednesday, May 29.

Buhari will on Wednesday commence his second term as Nigeria’s President. He won his re-election in the presidential election of February 23 where he defeated his major opponent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, among other contestants.
