President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met behind closed doors with Northern governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The agenda of the meeting was not made known to the media but it may not be unconnected to the worsening security situation in some states of the north.

The Northern region has been enveloped by violence arising from Boko Haram insurgency, herdsmen killing of farmers, armed banditry and kidnapping.

In a bid to tackle the security issues, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) launched “Operation Puff Adder”, however that has not put a stop to the killings in the region.

Only yesterday, many were killed and houses torched in Dutse Uku, Rikkos and Cele Bridge areas of Jos, the capital of Plateau State, in a renewed orgy of violence that the police claimed had been brought under control.

The governors present at the meeting include Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state, Kashim Shetima of Borno, Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Simon Lalong of Plateau, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Sani Bello of Niger State.
