The Senator representing Oyo North District, Senator Fatai Buhari, says Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan, will become 9th Senate President because he already has 51 endorsement signatures from senators.

Naija News understands that Senator Buhari on Sunday while responding to questions from journalists in Ibadan, Oyo state, where he noted that Yobe North lawmaker has 51 endorsement signatures from 66 senators-elect on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party.

His words: “51 out of the 66 Senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have signed an endorsement list and pledged to vote for Senator Lawan.”

In a related development, a former Governor of Abia State, southeast Nigeria and Senator-elect, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, has endorsed the Lawan for the position of the Senate President of the 9th Nigerian Senate.

Naija News understands that Kalu endorsed Lawan on Sunday, May 26, where he urged him to lead the 9th Senate well.

The Senator-elect traced his relationship with Lawan back to their days in school as roommates in the University of Maiduguri in Borno state, northern Nigeria.

According to him, having lived with Lawan in the same room for more than a year, he saw nothing bad in endorsing his ambition to become the President of the Senate.

His words: “Honestly, I don’t see why I should leave Lawan. You know many years ago, he was my roommate in the University of Maiduguri and we lived in the same room for almost one and half years and I don’t see why I will not go with him,” Kalu said.
