1. INEC Shifts Kogi, Bayelsa Governorship Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, has rescheduled Kogi and Bayelsa state governorship elections.

Naija News reports that INEC director of voter education and publicity, Festus Okoye, made this known in a statement on Thursday, May 16.

2. Buhari Hands Over To Osinbajo, Skips FEC Meeting

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday presided over the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Naija News understands that Thursday’s meeting is an extension of the meeting of Wednesday.

3. June 12: Senate Passes Bill Recognizing Date As Democracy Day

The Senate on Thursday passed the Public Holiday Act Amendment Bill to recognise June 12 as the new Democracy Day.

This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari announced that the date would replace May 29 as the Democracy Day to celebrate the return to the civilian government.

4. EFCC Quizzes NASS Clerk, Seizes His International Passport

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has questioned the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, over financial transactions of the National Assembly.

Naija news Learnt that the EFCC also seized Mr Sani-Omolori’s international passport. He was said to have “duly cooperated with EFCC officers.”

5. MTN Officially Lists Its Shares On The Nigerian Stock Exchange

MTN Nigeria on Thursday, 16th May 2019, fulfilled its earlier promise as it listed its shares on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Naija News reports MTN Nigeria by this action, has joined seven companies already listed on the premium board of the NSE.

6. President Buhari Departs Nigeria For Saudi Arabia

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday departed the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja for Saudi Arabia.

The President was reported to have departed the country with members of his entourage from the airport at about 11 am.

7. Senate Confirms Godwin Emefiele As CBN Governor For Second Term

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been confirmed by the Senate for a second term of 5 years.

The CBN governor was before the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions on Wednesday for screening after he was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for the second term in office.

8. Oshiomhole, APC Behind EFCC’s Plan To Arrest, Detain Me – Okorocha Claims

The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has accused the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, and the party of instigating the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to arrest him.

Governor Okorocha revealed this in two separate fundamental rights enforcement suits marked FHC/ABJ/CS/474/19 and FHC/ABJ/CS/475/19 and filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

9. EFCC Re-arraigns Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, Godwin Obla

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned a dismissed judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia on allegations of bordering on corruption.

Naija News understands that Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia was re-arraigned on an 18 count charge alongside a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Godwin Obla.

10. Supreme Court Fixes Date To Deliver Ruling On Zamfara APC Dispute

The Supreme Court on Thursday fixed May 24 to deliver a ruling in the appeals relating to the dispute over the validity of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) primary elections in Zamfara State.

The Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad-led the five-man panel which heard the appeal on Thursday.
