The popular Soul Lounge located in Kubwa, Abuja was on Thursday gutted by fire.

Naija News understands that the fire incident started at about 6:15 p.m. According to Mr Eli Mathias, Assistant Superintendent, Fire Service, Kubwa Division, the cause of the fire was suspected to be from a power surge on one of the bar sockets.

“It started from one of the sockets which powered several musical gadgets,” he said.

He applauded the efforts of people at the scene who tried to quench the fire before the arrival of firefighters.

“Efforts to put the fire under control by the crowd was impressive but it was beyond them before our arrival,” he said.

Mathias, however, said that no life was lost as fun-seekers at the bar and club were quick to evacuate the scene before it escalated.

Meanwhile, in another development, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello has explained reasons behind the controversial demolition of Caramelo night club.

Mr Bello who spoke after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbanjo, said the action taken was as a last resort following a breach by the original owner.

Painful as it was, the minister underscored that Abuja is a city for everyone nevertheless he says the law had to take its course and the government is determined to follow the master plan in all its dealings.

The ministers are expected to reconvene for the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday, the 20th of May, 2019 for what might be their last meeting before the valedictory session on the 22nd of May, Naija News learnt.
