Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has commended the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for making June 12 the new Democracy Day.

The Senate on Thursday passed the Public Holiday Act Amendment Bill to recognise June 12 as the new Democracy Day.

This is coming after Buhari announced that the date would replace May 29 as the Democracy Day to celebrate the return to the civilian government.

With the declaration of the President, some criticised him for his declaration while others commended him for his decision.

However, Buhari’s declaration was approved by the Senate after the lawmakers considered the bill seeking to amend the Public Holiday Act.

Reacting in a post on Twitter, Fani-Kayode stated that past administrations never had the courage to do what Buhari did.

He wrote: “I remain an ardent critic of the Buhari admin. but there is one thing that I shall always commend them for: the establishment of June 12th as the real Democracy Day.

“Sadly not one PDP government, including the one I served from 2003 till 2007, had the courage to do that.”
