Unai Emery reveals conversation with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before brace to win Golden Boot

Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pleaded with Unai Emery for a start against Burnley before his brace at Turf Moor saw him share the Golden Boot with Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Aubameyang, 29, scored a hat-trick against Valencia on Thursday night to send Arsenal into the Europa League final and the forward’s lethal form continued as he inspired the Gunners to a 3-1 win over Sean Dyche’s side on the final day of the Premier League season.

Emery revealed that Aubameyang was desperate to start against Burnley and sent his congratulations to the forward after he went on to share the Golden Boot with Salah and Mane.

On Aubameyang winning the award, Emery replied: ‘Yes [that was] another target also.

‘We spoke yesterday and he wanted to play today for this opportunity and the team, every player, also were with this commitment to help him if we can.

‘We are really very pleased for him that he reached his target and today I think today we can be happy with him.’

Emery unsure if Arsenal will be able to call upon Mkhitaryan in Europa League final

Arsenal manager Unai Emery still does not know if “political issues” will prevent him from selecting Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a Europa League final date with Chelsea.

The Gunners have expressed concerns over the safety of their 30-year-old playmaker ahead of a trip to Baku due to the political tension which exists between Azerbaijan and the midfielder’s native Armenia.

No further light has been shed on the situation heading towards a showpiece event on May 29.

“It’s political issues and I don’t know what the solution is,” Emery told reporters after seeing his side wrap up their Premier League campaign for 2018-19 with a 3-1 win away at Burnley.

Lacazette ‘flattered’ by reported Barcelona interest

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette said he was flattered by rumoured interest from Barcelona as he added to mounting speculation that a transfer away from Emirates Stadium could be in the offing.

Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona see the 27-year-old as an ideal alternative should their attempts to sign Antoine Griezmann continue to prove fruitless, and Lacazette indicated he would be open to a move to Camp Nou.

When asked about the Catalan club’s apparent interest by French broadcaster Telefoot, he said: “It’s flattering.”
