Heavily Armed Security Agents 'Deployed' To Emir Sanusi’s Palace

Some heavily armed officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), have been reportedly deployed to the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the residents of some senior council members of the Kano Emirate in Kano state, northern Nigeria.

A report monitored on Daily Trust by Naija News, says about 10 police Hilux Vans with security personnel were stationed at the emir’s palace at Kofar Kudu on Saturday, May 11, while another 10 patrol vehicles were deployed to the personal residence of the chief of staff to the Emir of Kano along Iyaka road.

The report said an additional deployment of policemen were stationed at the residence of another aide of the emir, the incumbent Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, while the main entrance of Kano state government house was also guarded by security officials.

Asked about the deployment, Kano state police spokesperson, Haruna Abdullahi, said he was not aware of the police operation and would rather not make any comment about it.

“I will find out from my superiors why police Mopol were deployed and communicate to you. As soon as I get details of the operation, I will get back to you,” he said.

The report added that the security deployment may be connected with a planned presentation of letters of appointment to the four new emirs by the state governor.

Meanwhile, Naija News recalls that the Kano state high court, in a judgement on Friday, May 10, granted an order restraining Governor Abdullahi  Ganduje from implementing the establishment of four more emirates.

Justice Nasiru Saminu gave an interim injunction directing all parties in the suit to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice in a suit filed by one Rabiu Sule Gwarzo.

Reacting to the judgement, the Kano governor said he was not aware of the court order restraining him from creating additional emirates in the state and giving the staff of office to new emirs.

Governor Ganduje made this comment on Saturday, May 11, while proceeding with the move to give a letter of appointment to emirs of the newly created emirates at Kofar Mata Indoor Sports Hall.
