UTME: JAMB releases details of arrests over examination malpractice

More than a third of the arrests made over examination malpractice in the 2019 UTME was recorded in Bauchi State, a report by the Special Technical Task Team of JAMB has revealed.

The document, obtained exclusively by PREMIUM TIMES, showed that 48 out of the 136 suspects were arrested in Bauchi during the examination conducted nationwide from April 11 to 19.

Sokoto and Lagos states followed, with five persons each arrested for infractions during the examination.

The document showed that the arrests were made in 23 out of the 36 states.

The task team reported that the legal department of the state police command was vetting the case files of the suspects arrested in Bauchi State to determine the appropriate legal steps to take.

2019 UTME: Teachers Fault JAMB’s Policy/Guidelines

The Lagos State chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Adesina Adedoyin, has faulted JAMB’s policy and guidelines which stated that if the number of candidates that cheated in an examination was more than the number of candidates that failed, then the examination should be cancelled.

Speaking in an interview with NAN on Tuesday, he also condemned the policy that stated that another examination should be conducted in such a centre.

The NUT chairman said that such a policy was anti-people and should be abolished.

2019 UTME: Teachers Tell JAMB What To Do About Results

The chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to release the results of candidates who were not involved in examination malpractices during the 2019 UTME.

NUT chairman for Lagos State wing, Adesina Adedoyin, made the appeal on Tuesday in Lagos in an interview with NAN.

The union said the results’ release should be for candidates who wrote the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and were found to be innocent.
