Kano: Why I Was Told To Dethrone Emir Sanusi - Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has given his assent to the emirate bill passed by the Kano State House of Assembly on breaking up the emirate in the state.

Naija News reports that this is coming after the state Governor had vowed to give his assent to the emirate bill if presented before him.

With the development, Kano now has five emirates and are; Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi, while the domain of Muhammadu Sanusi, the Emir of Kano, has been reduced.

The assent to the emirate bill also comes after the state House of Assembly had on Wednesday passed the bill approving the amendment of the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs law.

The House unanimously agreed that creation of more Emirates will assist in job creation, dispute, and community conflict resolutions among others.

Naija News understands that all these were presented in a motion to the House by the Majority Leader, Baffa Babba.

The passage of this bill will also pave way for the decentralisation of the Kano Emirate council and by extension decentralizes the power of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The bill, however, awaits the final approval from the governor of the State, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
