The trial of Senator Dino Melaye was on Monday stalled following the absence of Justice Yusuf Halilu of an FCT High Court, Maitama.

According to NAN, the judge was absent due to an official assignment on election tribunal in Ogun State.

The Inspector-General of Police on January 22 arraigned the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly.

Senator Dino was arraigned on eight-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, resistance to arrest, failure to honour police invitation and intentionally giving false information to the public.

The police had placed an allegation against the senator claiming that he conspired with one Silas Omenka on December 28, 2018 to commit an offence of illegal obstruction to lawful arrest, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 97 of the Penal Code.

The police also claimed that the Senator also tweeted with the aim of inciting the public against the police.

Melaye was reported to have tweeted that the IG planned to arrest and inject him to death and offence which is punishable under Section 416 of the Penal Code.

Senator Melaye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges raised against him by the police.
