Multiple sources have indicated that the present SGF, Boss Mustapha may have lost favour with the face of the cabal at the presidency.

The relationship between the two parties has gone cold. The lone political gladiator from the northern minority finds himself hedged in a war to remain at the office of the SGF.

As a caveat, during the period leading to the unceremonious removal of the former SGF, Babachir Lawal, the presidency had indicted the former SGF of financial offenses, following a committee investigation headed by the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and had instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence prosecution of the former SGF. The former SGF was then sent of suspension and later sacked.

According to 247ureports, Bola Tinubu was asked to recommend a replacement for Babachir Lawal. He recommended Boss Mustapha – also a Christian from the same local government area as Babachir Lawal.

Boss Mustapha who had a wider political spread and hold of the Christian folk in Northern Nigeria became an easy swallow for the President. The President took the recommendation and appointed Boss Mustapha the new SGF.

His appointment, however, did not sit well with many within the presidency who had wanted to present their candidates to the President for consideration for the position. It raised eyebrows within the cabal. And almost immediately, the cabal began undermining the new SGF – relegating the new SGF to the backgrounds on virtually all transactions at the Presidency.

The likes of the President’s wife, Babachir Lawal, Nuhu Ribadu, and others began a latent campaign for the removal of the new SGF. Reliable but unverified information revealed the cabal had impressed upon the new SGF to “play ball” and “fall in line” in order for the pressure to be eased. Boss Mustapha was not willing to engage. He did not engage.

As the general elections of 2019 came around, the cabal upped the ante. Their sights were fixed at the Adamawa gubernatorial exercise – where a relative to the President’s wife, Mahmood Halilu was vying for the seat under the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Mahmood Halilu lost the APC gubernatorial primary to the then incumbent governor, Mohammed Jibrila Bindow.

Halilu’s loss was attributed to Boss Mustapha’s support of the incumbent Governor Mohammed Jibrila Bindow.

It is believed the eventual victory of the People Democratic Party (PDP) at the Adamawa State gubernatorial election over the APC was largely due to anti-party activities by the Aisha Buhari led group who canvassed against the incumbent governor.

Mohammed Jibrila Bindow – a one-time military administrator of Lagos State – played a significant role in the campaign for President Buhari’s reelection.

Buba Marwa

The President’s wife along with Babachir Lawal have since joined forces against Boss Mustapha to eject him out of the office of the SGF.

Collectively, the two have agreed to present Mohammed Buba Marwa as a replacement.

Nuhu Ribadu and other APC chieftains from Adamawa State are said to have signed on to replacing Mustapha with Marwa.
