Sultan Announces Commencement Of Ramadan 2019

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Monday, May 6, as the 1st Ramadan, 1440H, signifying the commencement of the annual long-month fast by Muslims.

Naija News reports that Abubakar announced the sighting of the new moon in Sokoto, northern Nigeria, on Sunday evening, May 5, in a broadcast monitored by this reporter.

During the broadcast, the Sultan urged all Muslims in Nigeria to pray for the blessings of Allah to lead Nigeria at all levels to succeed in steering the affairs of the country and also for the sustenance of peace and stability.

His words: “Pray fervently for the blessings of Almighty Allah to lead us at all levels to succeed in steering the affairs of our dear country and for the sustenance of peace and stability,” the Sultan said during the broadcast.

In the same vein, Simwal, a member of the National moonsighting committee Nigeria, also confirmed the development, saying the Sultan authorized him to inform the general public that the crescent moon for the month of Ramadan has been sighted in different parts of the country.

This online news platform reports that Simwal made this known on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Sunday evening.

His words: “His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has authorized me to inform the general public that Ramadan crescent was sighted in different locations in Nigeria this evening, compilation of more results is going on. Taraweeh prayers can commence, he will make an official declaration shortly,” he tweeted.
