Nigerians React As Police 'Transfer' Yomi Shogunle To Nkalagu In Ebonyi

Abayomi Shogunle, a controversial officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has reportedly been transferred from Lagos state, Nigeria’s commercial city, to Nkalagu in Ebonyi State, south-east Nigeria.

Though it is unclear why Shogunle was transferred, Naija News, however, understands that the transfer might not be unconnected with his stance towards Nigerians’ complaints about Police brutality and the misbehaviour of some officers in the country.

Shogunle, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), has over time, made controversial comments on issues bordering on the activities of some police officers in the country with the recent being his comments on police brutality, extortion and alleged rape of some women arrested by policemen in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The ACP reminded Nigerians in one of his tweets that “those making noise on the clampdown on prostitutes in Abuja that prostitutes don’t pay tax” adding that ‘sex hawking’ “is a crime under the law”.

“Those making noise on the clampdown on prostitutes in #Abuja; •Prostitution is a crime under the law •P is a sin under the 2 main religions of FCT residents •Medicine says P is spreading HIV & STD •P is lifeline of violent criminals •P don’t pay tax culture frowns at P,” he had tweeted.

Apparently displeased with the statement of the police officer, Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to condemn Shogunle, questioning his competence as the head of Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

Days after the incident, reports have filtered in suggesting Shogunle has been transferred to Nkalagu in Ebonyi State.
