Lacazette wins Arsenal Player of the Year award

Alexandre Lacazette has won Arsenal’s Player of the Year award, winning 35 per cent of the votes cast by the London club’s supporters.

The Gunners announced the French striker’s triumph on Friday morning, the day after he scored two goals in their 3-1 Europa League semi-final first leg victory over Valencia.

It brought his total on the season to 18 in all competitions, to go along with nine assists for Unai Emery’s squad this term.

Petr Cech announces bizarre career change

The 36-year-old, who joined the Gunners in 2015, has confirmed that he will hang up his gloves when the current campaign comes to a close.

And the former Czech international, who is also a part-time drummer, has revealed he intends to release a charity single alongside Queen member Roger Taylor.

The pair’s song, titled ‘That’s Football’, will be available to download next week and will raise funds for the Willow Foundation – a UK-based organisation founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson which provides special days for seriously ill young adults.

“Watch out Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, & others, there’s a new artist in town,” Cech wrote on Twitter.

Arsenal legend sees ‘major movement’ to address ‘awful’ area of Gunners squad

Arsenal can expect to see “major movement” in the summer transfer market, says Lee Dixon, with Unai Emery’s defensive unit still making “awful mistakes”.

The Gunners have been unable to plug leaks at the back this season, with a hangover in that area being endured from the end of Arsene Wenger’s reign.

Emery has seen the club take positive steps in the right direction, but there is still considered to be much work to do in north London.

Dixon believes efforts will be made to address those issues in the next recruitment window, with Arsenal clearly in need of additions.

Europa League: Arsenal Puts One Foot In The Final Thanks To Lacazette And Aubameyang

Arsenal placed themselves ahead of the Europa League semi-final on Thursday after a 3-1 triumph at Valencia in their first-leg match in London.

The Spaniards were the first to score in the Emirates with 11 minutes left by French midfielder Mouctar Diakhaby but Arsenal only needed a quarter of an hour to get back, with two goals from French international Alexandre Lacazette, in the 18 and 26.

In the second half, Arsenal dominated the game and were always closer to 3-1 than Valencia 2-2.

In the 90 + 1 minute, Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ‘got’ the third goal.
