FUOYE Student In Court Over Alleged Possession Of Indian Hemp

NDLEA moves against cultivation of Indian hemp

A student of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ishola Oluwaferanmi, has been brought before the Ado EKiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly having in possession Indian Hemp.

The police prosecutor, Johnson Okunade, while speaking in the court stated that the FUOYE student committed the offence on April 17 in Oye-Ekiti local government area.

He claimed that the 23-year-old student was apprehended on the campus with five wraps of Indian hemp by the security officials of the school who handed him over to the police.

The Inspector stated that the offence contravened Section 5 of the India Hemp Act 2004.

The prosecutor called on the court to adjourn the case for him to study the case and be able to present his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Counsel to the student, Mr. Tunde Olayemi, called on the court to grant him bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with one credible surety in like sum.

Adegboye adjourned the case until May 24 for hearing.
