1. President Buhari Signs New Minimum Wage Bill Into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Thursday, 18th April 2019, signed the new national minimum wage bill into law.

Naija News recalls the Senate had on March 19, approved and passed the sum of N30,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

2. CCT Finds Onnoghen Guilty, Bans Him From Public Office For Ten Years

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has found Walter Onnoghen, who recently resigned as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), guilty of false declaration of assets in breach of the provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for public officials.

Delivering its judgement on Thursday, Naija News reports the three-man panel chaired by Danladi Umar, therefore, removed him from the office as Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of National Judicial Council (NJC).

3. Zamfara: Troops Arrest Local Government Vice Chairman For Providing Information To Bandits

Troops of Operation SHARAN DAJI in Zamfara State have arrested the Vice Chairman, Anka Local Government Zamfara State, Mr Yahuza Ibrahim Wuya on the 13th of April 2019 based on credible intelligence report linking him to bandits in Wuya and Sunke communities.

Mr Yahuza Ibrahim was allegedly reported to seamlessly assist in selling rustled/stolen cows and donkeys as well as giving information about troops, other security agencies and vigilantes’ movement to the bandits.

4. EFCC Re-arraigns Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia Over Money Laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday re-arraigned former Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogbia of the Federal High Court over alleged money laundering.

However, the anti-graft commission could not produce a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Godwin Obla, for arraignment in Lagos.

5. Presidency Denies Buhari Using EFCC To Tackle Opposition

The presidency has reacted to claim by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) that President Muhammadu Buhari was witch-hunting opposition with the EFCC.

HURIWA had on Wednesday condemned Buhari for allegedly using security agencies and the Ministry of Federal Capital Territory to demolish a section of African Independent Television (AIT) building in Abuja.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in its ruling on Thursday, noted that it has the legal power to try the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen on charges of breach of the code of conduct for public prosecution.

The tribunal added that it was trying Onnoghen as a public officer, not as a judicial officer.

A suit seeking the sack of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and 52 other lawmakers, has today been adjourned by a Federal High Court Abuja till April 30.

An advocacy group, Legal Defence and Assistance Project, (LEDAP), dragged the lawmakers to court, insisting that they are no longer members of the National Assembly having defected to other political parties before the expiration of their tenure.

10. Presidency Reveals When Payment Of N30,000 Minimum Wage Will Start

The payment of the N30,000 new national minimum wage will start with immediate effect, the Presidency has said.
