Here Are The Major Headlines From Nigerian Newspapers For Wednesday, 17th April 2019

1. Court orders DSS to produce former NSA Sambo Dasuki

An FCT High Court in Maitama has issued a production warrant on the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to produce former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki in court for his trial.

The judge, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, issued the order on Tuesday, following the absence of Dasuki in court for his trial over allegations of criminal breach of trust and money laundering.

2. INEC gives fresh update on Imo North senatorial election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, says its committee has completed an investigation on allegations of misconduct in Imo North Senatorial election.

Naija News reports that the commission made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday evening by Mallam Mohammed Haruna, its National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee.

3. Drama as EFCC re-arrests Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia

There was a drama at the premises of an Ikeja High Court earlier on Tuesday as officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arrested a former judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia after she was discharged of all corruption charges against her.

According to reports gathered by Naija News, the EFCC surrounded Mrs Ofili-Ajumogobia as she attempted to leave the courtroom at 10.24 a.m. after the ruling by Justice Hakeem Oshodi.

4. Sign minimum wage bill before May 1, workers beg Buhari

Workers in the country have pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the minimum wage bill submitted to him by the National Assembly on March 27.

Some of the workers, who spoke in separate interviews on Tuesday in Abuja, expressed concern over the delay in signing the bill into law, adding that it was causing unnecessary anxiety.

5. Nnamdi Kanu gives condition to end Biafra agitation

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has vowed to end the agitation for the Republic of Biafra should President Muhammadu Buhari “submit himself to a DNA test” to confirm the person in Aso Rock is the “real Buhari”.

Naija News reports that Kanu made this vow during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra over the weekend.

6. Why we re-arrested Ofili-Ajumogobia – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed why it re-arrested a dismissed judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia.

The anti-graft agency explained that the Commission re-arrested Ofili-Ajumogobia in line with the decision of the Appeal Court, Lagos Division, in a case involving Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, saying that a judge could not be prosecuted until he or she had either been dismissed or compulsorily retired by the National Judicial Council, NJC.

7. Nnamdi Kanu reveals only way Atiku can defeat Buhari at the tribunal

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has disclosed the only way the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, can defeat President Muhammadu Buhari at the election tribunals.

According to him, the PDP and Atiku should demand a DNA test on President Muhammadu Buhari to prove that he is not also Nigerian but a Sudanese body-double identified as Jubril Al-Sudanni.

8. WAEC certificate: Adeleke attacks Festus Keyamo

Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP-Osun West) has dismissed allegations that he presented a forged WAEC certificate to INEC during the last Osun State governorship election.

Naija News recalls that the spokesperson of the President Muhammadu Buhari campaign organisation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), had claimed the lawmaker forged his WAEC certificate.

9. Group gives Atiku 21 days ultimatum to return to Cameroon and apologize to Nigerians

The Coalition of Minority Tribes in Nigeria has given the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, 21 days to leave the country.

As an option, the group advised the former Vice President to apologize to Nigerians and seek naturalization as a Nigerian citizen.

10. Atiku releases ‘evidence’ of 2019 election result from INEC server

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 Presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, says the result he obtained from the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shows he defeated President Muhammadu Buhari in the election.

Naija News reports that the PDP Presidential candidate gave the “unique MAC address and Microsoft product ID of the INEC server” from where the results were obtained in his submission to the presidential election tribunal.
