About 10 trade union leaders of the Lagos State Polytechnic in the Ikorodu area of Lagos have been arrested by some of the operatives of the Lagos state police command over an allegation of attempted murder.

Naija News reports that the unionists were arrested for allegedly molesting some examiners of the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) conducting the 2019 Unified Territory Matriculation Examination (UTME) in the premises of the school.

While confirming the arrest of the officials of the institution, the spokesman for the state command, DSP Bala Elkana confirmed the arrest on Tuesday and stressing that the murder suspects were undergoing interrogation at the Special Investigation Bureau of the Lagos state police command.

Elkana in his confirmation on Tuesday said that polytechnic suspects were arrested for allegedly attempting the murder of the JAMB officials although he didn’t state how the suspect intended to do that.

“They are undergoing interrogation at the headquarters for attempted murder. They will be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded,” he said.

In his confirmation, the spokesman of LASPOTECH, Olanrewaju Kuye said that the officials were arrested over an alleged molestation of two JAMB officials who were in the school premises for an official duty.

“The molested JAMB officials reported to the police.

“The Polytechnic management only apologised to JAMB when we heard of it because we have not been allowed into our offices by the striking unions since January.

“Since we are not on ground, we cannot really ascertain what happened, but would only depend on the report from the investigation of the police.

“It is now a case of the police, JAMB versus the union and not the management,” he said.

The spokesman said the incident was an embarrassment and loss to the institution as JAMB immediately relocated its CBT centre from the Polytechnic to another venue.
