Keyamo Defends Buhari’s Educational Qualification

The spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has declared that one does not compulsorily need a WAEC certificate to become President of Nigeria.

Keyamo made the assertion on Sunday when he answered a question on the eligibility of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the presidential election.

He appeared on Channels Tv on Sunday night.

In his submission, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria said, if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, you do not need a WAEC certificate to become president of Nigeria.

In his words; “There are other levels of qualifications to run for the office of President. In fact, if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, by the provisions of the constitution, you do not even need a WAEC certificate to become President of Nigeria.

“It becomes extremely foolish for anybody who is not statutorily empowered to issue WAEC certificates to come and challenge the body that has the statutory power to issue certificates.”

Naija News reports there have been controversies surrounding the eligibility of President Buhari to contest the highest political office in Nigeria based on his educational qualifications.

Mr. Buhari, who contested the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress has been declared winner and president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

His victory is however been challenged by his main contender, Alh Atiku Abubakr of the Peoples Democratic Party, who has rejected the election results and vowed to seek redress in court.
