1. President Buhari orders security chiefs to deal with bandits, kidnappers, others

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged security agencies to put their acts together and deal ruthlessly with bandits, kidnappers and other security challenges in the country.

Naija News learnt that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin, briefed State House correspondents on Thursday at the end of about two hours meeting with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

2. FG breaks silence on Nigeria’s rising debt

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, noted there is no cause for worry over the country’s rising debt, adding that servicing it is sustainable.

Through the minister of budget and national planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, made this known at the end of the FEC meeting that was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

3. Supreme Court strikes out appeal by Rivers State APC

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has canceled the consolidated appeals of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State and Tonye Cole saying that it was lacking in merit.

In a lead judgment, acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed sustained the preliminary objection by PDP Counsel, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN).

4. Theresa May, EU leaders agree to delay Brexit until 31st October

British Prime Minister, Theresa May and EU leaders earlier today agreed to a Brexit extension until Oct. 31 at the latest, narrowly averting a no-deal Brexit the following day.

5. Abuja Posters: Presidency Issues Strong Warning To Atiku

The Federal Government has on Thursday urged the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alh. Atiku Abubakar to allow the tribunal to determine the outcome of the petition he filed against President Muhammadu Buhari over the February 23 presidential election.

It warned that resorting to self-help through unconstitutional means could attract dire consequences.

6. EFCC releases Ubani from custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday released the former 2nd Vice-President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Monday Ubani from detention.

The NBA former Vice-President was arrested and detained on March 19, along with Senator Christopher Ania for failing to produce the former Managing Director of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) Mrs Ngozi Olejeme who the both stood for as sureties.

7. Ex-President Jonathan reveals only way Nigeria can become peaceful

Former president and Chairman of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF), Dr Goodluck Jonathan, has disclosed that peace and development can only be achieved in Africa when democracy is given a humanitarian face.

Jonathan stated this in Yenagoa, on Thursday, when Dr Stephen Olali, the Chief Historian to the Bayelsa State Government, visited him at the Foundation’s headquarters to present his new book.

8. President Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan Removed from office

The President of Sudan, Omar Al-Bashir has on Thursday, stepped down and consultations are underway to install a transitional council, Naija News reports.

There have been protests by citizens of the North-Eastern country over Al-Bashir’s continued stay in power, leading up to his resignation in the early hours of Thursday.

British police on Thursday arrested WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange at Ecuador’s embassy in London.

This is following the withdrawal of his asylum by the Ecuadorian government.

President Muhammadu Buhari is to appear before the house of representatives to answer for the incessant killings in some parts of the country.
