Court Sentence Two Men To Jail For Beating Up A Woman

Two men were on Friday sentenced to one year in Prison by the Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Jos for beating up a woman and stealing her cellphone.

A trader identified as Usman and a mechanic Hamza were charged with conspiracy, criminal force and theft.

Magistrate Roseline Baraje, sentenced Usman and Hamza to one year in prison after pleading guilty to the charges.

However, they were given an option to pay a fine of N25,000 each.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ijuptil Thiawu had told the court the case was reported at the C’ Division Police Station on January 21 by one Esther of Rukuba Road Jos, who is the complainant.

Thiawu stated that accused and some others now at large conspired to beat up Esther at Gangare and stole her Itel phone valued at N6000 and N5000 cash.

Thiawu stated that during the investigation by the police, the phone and the money were recovered from them.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 559, 239 and 272 of the Penal Code.
