In a deliberate attempt to check poor handling and transportation of tomatoes, the Dangote Tomato Processing Company in Kano state, Kadawa has distributed about 20,000 baskets (crates) of the commodity to tomato farmers in the state.

The gesture was borne out of the company’s deliberate efforts to support the tomato growers and farmers in the state so as to enable the ease of transporting the commodity.

The Managing Director of the company, Alhaji Abdulkarim Kaita made this know in a statement he made in Kano and obtained by Naija News on Monday.

Kaita said the company which resumed operation after about two years of closure had decided to continue to provide to farmers the enabling environment to farm.

Kaita said the company resumed operations after about two years of closure due to the unavailability of fresh tomatoes for processing.

He said the company had decided to help the farmers with the crates of tomatoes so as to enable the farmers to comfortably transport their produce to the company and to help them remain in business.

He said since the plant resumed operation about one month ago, it is processing no fewer than 100 tonnes of fresh tomato per day.

In his words, Kaita said; “The company has resumed operation about one month ago and since then we have been processing not less than 100 tonnes of the commodity on a daily basis.

“We are happy that the company has resumed operation and it is our hope that as time goes on the quantity of the raw material being processed daily will increase.”
