1. INEC begins collation of governorship election result in Rivers State

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has today resumed Rivers State governorship poll’s result collation.

Recall that the process was suspended on March 10, 2019, due to the widespread disruption and violence that occurred in Polling Units and Collation Centres

2. Ninth Assembly: Why Senators should decide their leaders – Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki has advised political party leaders to allow lawmakers to choose their leaders on the day of inauguration in order to achieve stability of the 9th Assembly.

Though the outgoing Senate President did not mention any political party, observers believed that he was directing the advice to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership whose members will be in the majority in the 9th National Assembly.

3. Presidency reacts to murder of Kolade Johnson by SARS officers

The Presidency has expressed “deepest condolences to the family and friends” of Kolade Johnson, a football fan, who was shot dead by policemen from the Anti-Cultism Unit (SARS) of Lagos State Command.

Naija News had reported earlier that Johnson’s death occurred when an unmarked commercial bus visited Mangoro/Onipetesi community in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city, on Sunday afternoon in search of youths dressed wildly and rocking dreadlocks.

4. Saraki lists Senate’s achievements under him

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has on Monday listed some achievements of the Red Chamber, under him.

Saraki who spoke during the orientation programme for members-elect of the 9th National Assembly noted that he is glad that the 8th Senate is going out fulfilled.

5. Onnoghen Trial: Drama as witness appears in court with written ‘expo’

A mild drama occurred on Monday, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) sitting in Abuja, when one Lawal Olanrewaju Busari, a witness of Walter Onnoghen, the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) prepared a written script.

Recall that Onnoghen is currently standing trial over allegations of a fraudulent declaration of assets.

6. Why I visited President Buhari in Aso Rock – Okorocha

The outgoing governor of Imo state, southeast Nigeria, Rochas Okorocha, says he met President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock, to invite him to commission projects his administration executed in the state.

Naija News understands that the Governor who has been having a running battle with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole met President Buhari earlier on Monday.

7. Nigerian Police confirms the arrest of Kolade Johnson’s killer

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu has confirmed that the police team suspected to have been involved in the shooting of Kolade Johnson is now in our custody.

In a statement made available to Naija News by the Police Public Relations Officer Lagos State, DSP Bala Elkana, the Nigerian Police confirmed that the officers involved in the shooting have been arrested and are currently in Police custody undergoing interrogation.

8. Saraki speaks on Senate’s refusal to confirm Magu as EFCC chairman

The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has disclosed why the Senate rejected the candidacy of Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Saraki explained that the Presidency refused to follow standard global practice when the lawmakers refused to confirm Magu as the substantive boss of the EFCC.

9. Onnoghen Trial: CCB’s Director to appear in Court on Wednesday

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has summoned a director at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Mrs.Theresa Nwafor in relation to the ongoing trial of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.

CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, on Monday, issued a subpoena on Mrs. Nwafor to appear before the tribunal on Wednesday at 10am, following an application to that effect by the lawyer to Onngehen, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).

10. N30,000 Minimum Wage: TUC raises concern over inflation

While workers await the signing of the N30,000 minimum wage by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has noted that inflation may affect the purchasing power of workers.

TUC President Comrade Bobboi Kaigama said though the organised labour appreciates the approval of the new wage, the prices of commodities have gone up even when employers have yet to commence payment of the new wage.
