Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, has lamented over the inability of the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue him a Certificate of return as the senator-elect on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The Senator representing Imo North district stated that the non-issuance of the certificate of return is stopping him from the contest for the seat of the Senate President in the 9th assembly.

INEC had declared the senatorial election in Imo North as inconclusive, thereby stopping the Senator from been presented with a Certificate of Return, Naija News recalls.

Senator Uwajumogu had been declared as the winner by INEC before there was a reversal days after the INEC office in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area in the senatorial district was set ablaze by unidentified persons.

Uwajumogu during an interview with Daily Trust, stated that he won the election, he further claimed that the electoral process was conducted peacefully.

“INEC is relying on a court order obtained by one of the contestants to deny me the certificate of return.”

“The election should not have been declared inconclusive because the exercise was duly conducted and official results issued”

“The problem is that one person went to court to obtain an injunction and I think that INEC should not use that excuse to deny me the certificate of return.”
