Buhari Seeks Support Of 9th National Assembly Lawmakers

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that he won’t want the intrigues associated with the 8th National Assembly to repeat itself in the 9th National Assembly.

According to the President, some actions and decisions of the 8th National Assembly were regrettable.

Buhari made his mind known on Monday when he hosted state governors and senators-elect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President particularly lamented what he termed the deliberate and persistent delay in passing the national annual budget by the National Assembly and therefore urged the incoming lawmakers to do things differently so as to enable his administration achieve its target of transforming the nation.

“This is my fifth and last time of standing for an election – for that reason, I’ll like to leave something behind.

“And what I want to leave cannot be successfully done without your support.

“So, that is why I’m appealing for your support. What happened in the last Senate and so on is regrettable because I still feel it shouldn’t take seven months to pass a budget. You have a very, very serious job ahead of you.

“So, what I’m appealing is that any major decision you are going to take please reflect more on the country than yourself as a person – what effect will it have on the country,’’ NAN quoted him as saying.

President Buhari also voiced his readiness to work with the 9th national assembly in promoting peace, stability and economic prosperity in the country and also thanked the governors and senators-elect for their support and understanding.

As previously reported by Naija News, the governors of Kogi, Jigawa, Oyo, Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, Plateau, Osun and Lagos were in attendance while the Senators-elect who attended the event includes all those who had indicated interest to contest for the seat of President of the Senate in the 9th National Assembly.

Among other senators, Ahmed Lawan, Danjuma Goje and Ali Ndume all from Northeast zone of the country and Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central zone as well as some presidential aides all graced the event.
