Senator Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has condemned the decision of the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, to adopt Senator Ahmad Lawan as the next Senate President of the Ninth Assembly.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, the lawmaker revealed that the APC leadership informed the Senators-elect under the party, that Lawan was the next Senate President at a dinner with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock last night.

He said that the choice of Lawan was an unpopular and unconstitutional decision.

The Senator described it as a unilateral choice made by Oshiomhole.

Ndume, however, said he would speak to North-East leaders of the party and his colleagues who are supporting his aspiration, before taking a final position.

“All my colleagues at the occasion yesterday (Monday) were shocked when Adams Oshiomhole unilaterally announced his decision to endorse Lawan as the candidate of the party.

“It is an unpopular decision because I am sure that President Buhari and other leaders of the party are not in support of that action. None of the stakeholders was also consulted,” he said.
