Police Arrest 18 Over Alleged Electoral Offences

Operatives of the Oyo state police command have apprehended persons over several alleged electoral offences in the state.

Naija News reports that the operatives of the state police command apprehended the suspects from various locations in the state for their alleged several roles in distorting the Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, disclosed this on Wednesday, March 14 in an interview in Ibadan, where he noted that the offences committed by the suspects ranged from attempts to snatch boxes and papers among other acts against the peaceful conduct of the election.

Fadeyi said the offences committed by the suspects ranged from attempts to snatch ballot boxes and ballot papers to violence.

Fadeyi revealed that at least seven assorted guns and 30 live cartridges were recovered from those arrested including other dangerous weapons that were recovered from some of the suspects.

He said that the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at Iyaganku, was currently carrying out preliminary investigations on the suspects.

Fadeyi said that the suspects would be transferred to Abuja for further investigation after completion of initial checks at the state level.
