Armed Bandits Attack Layin Maigwari Community In Birni Gwari Local Govt Area Of Kaduna State.

A day after the Kaduna state government placed curfew in Kajuru community, armed bandits have attacked Birnin Gwari Local Government killing no fewer than 22 persons at Layin Maigwari community.

Naija News reports that the state government had just imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the troubled Kajuru Local Government Area following recent incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen in the state.

A source in Birnin Gwari said the gunmen stormed the village at about 7:00pm yesterday and started shooting at residents who were running in all directions.

It was learned that the shooting lasted for about an hour after which 20 persons were killed and several others wounded.

The source said when the gunmen were leaving, they were confronted by some men from the vigilante group, but the bandits, while fleeing, killed two of them.

“It was this morning that their remains were buried with the help of the presence of security agents,” he said .

Layin Maigwari was attacked in similar circumstances last year compelling many to flee the village.

The village is about 20 minutes drive from Birnin Gwari on the way to Funtua.

The spokesman of the state police command, DSP Yakubu, said he was airborne when newsmen called him to confirm the attack.

He promised to call back when he landed, but had not done so at the time of filing this report, Daily Trust writes.
