The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act in defence of democracy.

The former Vice president stated this following the controversies that trailed the governorship and state house of Assembly election in six states.

While INEC stopped the announcement of election results in Rivers due to the violence that engulfed the state, the Commission has also controversially paused the announcement of the governorship election in Kano State, where PDP appears to be leading.

INEC has also declared as inconclusive, the outcome of the elections in Bauchi, Benue, Adamawa, Plateau and Sokoto states.

Reacting in a post on Twitter, Atiku wrote: “Anti-democratic forces are at work.

“My counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission is as follows: Conclude on the side of democracy. Conclude on the side of the people. Conclude on the side of the constitution. Conclude on the side of Nigeria.”
