Abia state is one of the 29 out of 36 states where people will today head to the polls to determine who will be their governor for the next four years.

Recall the Independent National Electoral Commission fixed Saturday, 9th March for the conduct of governorship and state assembly elections after postponing the initial date by a week.

Abia state is a Peoples Democratic Party controlled state with incumbent governor Okezie Ikpeazu seeking re-election for a second term in office.

He is however been challenged for the number one position in the state by other candidates including Ogah Samson of the APC and Alex Otti of APGA.

2:48 PM – Results have started trickling in from various polling units. Check our election result update page even as we await official results from INEC.

2:17 PM – Voting has ended in some PU. Sorting and counting is about to commence. Party agents ready for the process.

1:10 PM – INEC says there will be no extension of voting time in the ongoing elections nationwide. Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner, made this known while briefing journalists at the INEC national situation room in Abuja.

12:05 PM – Food vendors outnumber voters in many polling units.

10:13 AM – Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu casts his vote.

9:52 AM- Voting commences in urban ward 1, 016, Umuahia, Abia State

9:08 AM – Accreditation and voting already underway at polling unit 21, Umuola ward in Aba North local government area.

8:45 AM – Heavily armed security personnel present at Ward 1, Polling Unit 5 Aba North LGA Abia Abia State.

8:38 AM – INEC officials have arrived with election materials at Ndume Ohokobe ward in Abia State but voting is yet to commence.

7:58 AM – INEC officials and electoral materials are already on ground at ward 9, polling unit 13 in Abia North local government area. Security agencies present. Voting yet to commence.
