Rohr Predicts Winner Of AFCON 2019 Tournament

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has named four teams he strongly believes stand a chance of winning the 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament.

The coach however surprisingly left out the Super Eagles on the basis that the country is not among the top three best-ranked teams in Africa.

Rohr identified Morocco, Tunisia, Egpyt and Senegal as teams to watch out for and are favourites for the title.

“No, I do not think we can say that. When we look at the ranking of Africa and FIFA, we are not the first African country,” Rohr told girondins4ever.com.

“There are other countries in front of us, I think we are fourth. There is Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt that may be favourite at home for the AFCON, there is also Senegal in front of us.

“The ranking is not just the latest results, but for a few years. In 2014, 2015, Nigeria was not great and did not qualify for the last two AFCON. It has somewhat handicapped its ranking at FIFA and Africa,” he added.

Naija News reports that the 2019 AFCON tournament will hold in between June 21 and July 19 in Egypt. It will also be the first Africa Cup of Nations expanded from 16 to 24 teams.
