Why We Suspended Okorocha, Amosun – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, says it suspended Ibikunle Amosun, governor of Ogun, and Rochas Okorocha, his Imo counterpart over anti-party activities.Naija News reports that Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC spokesman, made this known in a statement on Friday, March 1.

This online news platform had reported that the governors suspended by the national working committee (NWC) of the ruling party. Speaking further, the APC spokesman said the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, and Usani Usani, minister of Niger Delta affairs, were also suspended.

Police Service Commission Gives Reasons For Inability To Secure Elections Effectively

The Police Service Commission (PSC) says lack of inadequate personnel of security agencies and lack of necessary logistics were the reasons for the inability to secure last elections effectively.Naija News reports that the Presidential and National Assembly elections which took place last Saturday, February 23, were marred with violence across the nation.

Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Friday, March 1 and obtained by Naija News, the Commission said the provision of adequate security by the agencies with improved strength backed by logistics will ensure that peaceful environment is created for unhindered citizen participation in subsequent elections to discourage miscreants from disrupting the election process.

Our Staff Were Abducted, Raped During Election – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, says some of its staff were abducted and raped during the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Naija News reports that INEC commissioner for information and voter education, Festus Okoye, made this known in a statement on Friday, March 1.

Okoye said while the elections were generally peaceful, there was “high level of violence” in a few places in addition to “the subjugation of some of our electoral officials to threats, harassment, intimidation, assault, abduction, and even rape.”

NBC Sanction: NTA, AIT, TVC And 43 Others To Pay N.5m For Breach of Ethical Codes

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has sanctioned 45 broadcast stations, including NTA, AIT, Channels and TVC News, for alleged ethical infractions in relation to the 2019 general elections.

Naija News Understands that the Director-General of the commission, Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.Mr Kawu said the erring stations, which cut across the country, violated provisions of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code, and were fined N500,000 each.

Court Stops INEC From Giving Certificate Of Return To Akpabio’s Opponent

 

Justice Valentine Ashi of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stay action on the issuance of a certificate of return to any candidate in Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district election.

Naija News Understands that the justice gave the order on Friday, following an application with suit No ‘FCT/HC/M/2680/19’, with Senator Godswill Akpabio as the applicant.
