1. Atiku too desperate, not destined to be Nigeria’s President – Oshiomhole

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, Adams Oshiomhole, says the Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in last Saturday’s election, Atiku Abubakar, was never destined to rule Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the APC National Chairman made this comment at a press conference on Thursday while reacting to Abubakar’s rejection of the election result.

2. Presidency gives update on new minimum wage implementation

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Gida Mustapha, has disclosed that the Federal Government has made provisions for the implementation of the N30,000 New Minimum Wage.

Mustapha made this known while speaking to reporters in Abuja on Thursday.

3. Rivers Court sacks another governorship candidate

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has ordered the removal of Dumo Lulu-Briggs as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party.

While delivering judgment, Justice E.A Obile said Dumo Lulu-Briggs did not participate in the primaries of Accord Party and should not be the beneficiary of the Governorship ticket.

4. We only suspended Onnoghen, not remove – FG

The Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation on Thursday told the Supreme Court that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, had not been removed from office but was only suspended.

Responding to a suit filed before the apex court by the Cross River State Government, the two respondents argued that Onnoghen was simply suspended to enable him to stand trial on charges of non-declaration of assets instituted against him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

5. Rasaq Atunwa denies withdrawing from Kwara governorship race

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, north-central Nigeria, Razak Atunwa, has denied withdrawing from the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set March 9 for the governorship election in all states across the country.

6. Bandits strike in Zamfara State, kill 13, kidnap 30

The security situation in the country received another challenge as bandits have reportedly struck again, killing more than thirteen people in Kawaya Village of Anka, Zamfara state.

The Bandits were also alleged to have destroyed many houses and vehicles as well as abducted more than thirty people.

7. Supreme Court fixes new date to hear Walter Onnoghen’s appeal

The Supreme Court has fixed May 17 to deliver judgment on a suit by the government of Cross River State seeking to set aside the six-count charge of non-declaration of assets against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The suit filed by the Attorney General of Cross River State on behalf of the state government is challenging the suspension and trial of Justice Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

8. Presidency says it is not jittery about Atiku going to the court

Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), says there is nothing to worry about over the threats by Atiku Abubakar to head to the tribunal over the results of Saturday’s presidential election.

He added that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress are not jittery about Atiku’s plans.

9. Buhari may dissolve cabinet before May 29 – Adesina

President Muhammadu Buhari‘s spokesman Femi Adeshina says the President will likely dissolve his cabinet before May 29.

Recall that in 2015, after president Buhari had assumed office, it took him another six months to reveal his cabinet members.

10. Fraud: former Air Force Chief, Tony Omenyi gets seven years jail term

A Federal High Court Sitting in Abuja today, sentenced a former Managing Director of the Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services Ltd, AVM Tony Omenyi to seven years imprisonment.

Mr Omenyi was charged with laundering a sum of N136 million which he said was received from a contractor with the Nigerian Air Force.
