The announcement of results for Plateau North Senatorial District and that of the House of Representatives seat for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency has been facing delay and is continuously generating anxiety amongst the citizenry.

This is just as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), through its chairman in the state, Rev. Canon Neuman Isa Gowon has warned that alterations of the results can lead to a breakdown of the peace in the zone, which is enjoying relative peace.

The body called on security operatives to ensure that “transparency and accountability” are allowed to prevail.

Gowon said, “As a body, our attention has been drawn to crucial issues that have made it necessary for us to address you.

“Our concern is based on the fact that the delayed announcement of the result sends a signal of the possibility of tampering with the results.

According to CAN, “A delayed announcement of the result unaltered has started generating anxiety in the hearts of the peace-loving people of Plateau State.

“We wish to let the world know that party agents have signed the results and are looking forward to its announcement unaltered, assigned by them.

Speaking on the process of collation and announcement of results by INEC, the clergy said, “We are aware that results should be checked and announced at various Senatorial and House of Representatives Offices of INEC.

“A situation where ad-hoc staff saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a transparent collation and transmission of results were being intimidated by some security agents is disturbing.

“We are, therefore, calling on our security agents to ensure that transparency and accountability is allowed to prevail without any delay.

“Any alteration can lead to a breakdown of the peace already enjoyed in Jos North/ Bassa Federal Constituency, Plateau State and Nigeria.

“We commend all the peace-loving people of Plateau State, Placteau North Senatorial District, Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency for your peaceful conduct before, during and after the election held on the 23rd of February, 2019″.

He said as a peace-loving citizens, they are calling on all Nigerians to support the cause of “transparency and truth.”
