The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Wednesday declared the incumbent president and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari as winner.

Naija News reports that the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, declared this during the early hours of Wednesday, around 4:39am precisely where he announced the results that showed that Buhari defeated his counterpart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar with a large margin.

Mahmood Yakubu, said Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat his rival, Atiku Abubakar who polled 11,262,978 votes.

Buhari’s victory comes after the electoral umpire had declared that Buhari lead in several states across the country.

While confirming his victory, the electoral umpire shared a Tweet via its Twitter account and captioned it as thus; “That Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
