Tribunal rejects PDP's request

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has remanded Sodiq Adedeji in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly attacking a man, Lanre Shoremi with a knife and robbing him of his motorcycle.

The presiding magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, remanded the 18-year-old motorcyclist in prison pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The defendant, whose plea had been denied by the court, was earlier arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The police prosecutor, Michael Unah, stated that the defendant and his gang members allegedly robbed Shoremi of his motorcycle valued at N250,000.

Unah stated that Adedeji committed the offences with others still at large on December 28, 2018, around 5.01am at Oniwaya junction, Agege, Lagos.

He said the complainant raised the alarm and the defendant was apprehended by passersby.

Unah stated that the offences contravene sections 296 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised) and that Section 299 provided a 21-year jail term for offenders.

Fashola adjourned the case till March 20, 2019, for advice by the DPP.
