2023: After Suspending Presidential Candidate, ADC Suspends 17 State Chairmen, Others
As the Saturday, February elections draw near, not fewer than 1,000 members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State have defected from the party and pledged their allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors, who were led by Pastor Adetunde Joseph from Oungbe Ward, Ita-Oba, Iselu, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, were received into the PDP when party leaders, including the State Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo; the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr. Reuben Abati and the Director-General of the Organisation, Aare Remi Bakare, led others on campaigns to Igbogila, Ketu and Ayetoro communities, all in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Pastor Joseph said he and others decided to leave the ADC because they did not want to belong to a party that does not have a presidential candidate.
He added that they also did not want to be left out of PDP’s victory train, which, he said, the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Senator Buruji Kashamu represented.
Addressing the people, Dayo urged them to support the PDP to restore the state’s lost glory.
He assured that Senator Kashamu was set to “take Ogun State to Greater Heights” if elected.
“Senator Kashamu is a successful entrepreneur and a philanthropist of note whose major concern is the welfare of the people. He has performed excellently well as the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly. He is willing to replicate his selfless performance across the three senatorial districts in Ogun State, if elected. He has documented his plans in a blueprint entitled ‘Road Map To Progress: Taking Ogun State To Greater Heights’.
“As a man of justice, he will ensure all-round development of the state with no preference for any Senatorial District. Simply put, he will ensure equal development in all parts of the state,” Dayo added.
In his remarks, Dr. Abati said he was overwhelmed by the massive crowd that welcomed them, adding that he and his principal would run a responsible and responsive government, if elected at the governorship poll on the 9th of March, 2019.
He said the prelude to their election would be the Presidential and National Assembly elections coming up on Saturday, the 23rd of February, 2019, and urged the people to vote PDP all the way.
He assured the people that there shall be financial freedom for the local government, adding that this would enhance development at the grassroots.
The Deputy Governorship Candidate said the issue of cooperative and other deductions will be reviewed in line with the wishes of the people.
Addressing the people,  Aare Bakare urged them to use their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to vote for all PDP candidates.
“The Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is a powerful instrument with which you can make a difference. You all must have known the difference between our Party and others. I am appealing to you, to please vote for our candidates from President to the House of Assembly.
“Transparency, Renewal and Inclusiveness shall be the principles that shall guide all the policies and programmes of the PDP, if elected. That way,  we shall take Ogun State to greater heights and get Nigeria working again,” Aare Bakare said.
Receiving the team in his palace, the Alaye of Ayetoro,  His Royal Highness, Oba AbdulAzeez Ishola Adelakun, prayed for the success of all PDP candidates at the polls.
The monarch, who expressed delight at the Kashamu-Abati ticket, said the combination will take the state to greater heights.
