The Independent National Electoral Commission had on the eve of the Presidential and National Assembly elections announced the postponement of the elections till February 23.

The Chairman of the commission, Mahmood Yakubu while speaking on the reason for the postponement stated that the commission took the step due to a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections

The development has stirred heated reactions on social media platforms with Nigerians showing their displeasure about the postponement which was revealed to have caused the country a loss of up to N5billion in the business world.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole while speaking on Monday during the APC caucus meeting alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission and its officials informed the Peoples Democratic party of its plan to postpone the election before taking the action.

The former governor of Edo state stated this at the emergency caucus meeting of APC which took place in Abuja on Monday.

He said;

“I can put my hands on the Quran and swear that INEC and its officials informed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before postponing the election. The PDP was well acquainted with the plans to move to the elections.

“This is why they did not receive the news with shock. They made us look like fools because we were busy preparing for the elections while they were relaxing.”
