The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Saturday postponed the general elections. In a press conference, the INEC Chairman stated that the postponement was due to logistic problems.

The presidency has reacted to the news that the 2019 general elections earlier scheduled to commence this Saturday has been postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). A Special Adviser to Delta state Governor, Ngozi Ijei was murdered dead last night in Ekpan, Uvwie local government of the state. Ijei was reportedly actively involved in the political unrest in the area since the last ten years, and his death has reportedly led to fear and tension in the area.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed reaction towards the postponement of the February 16 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The association described the postponement of the election as a national embarrassment and a setback to the democracy of the country.
