Terrorists Strike In Borno State Again

Not less than 11 persons have been reported killed when suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect attacked a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno state, early on Saturday.

Naija News understands several others were also injured in the attack which happened around 5:40am.

Damian Chukwu, commissioner of police in the state, confirmed the incident, saying two suicide bombers, accompanied by a gunman, infiltrated the mosque located in Kushari village behind old CBN quarters in the ancient city.

The police boss added that security operatives had already been deployed to the area while investigations have been launched into the attack.

The attack comes on a day Nigeria would have been holding its presidential and national assembly elections before it was shifted by INEC.

“On-the-spot assessment at the scene revealed that at about 0540hrs gunmen suspected to be BH terrorists & suicide bombers infiltrated Gwozari/Kushari in Polo general area, Maiduguri shooting sporadically & detonated IEDs strapped to their bodies,” Chukwu said as quoted by The Cable.

“Eleven people including three bombers died while fifteen others sustained injuries and are currently hospitalized at the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri.”

This new attack is coming just few days after terrorists attacked the convoy of Kashim Shettima, governor of the state while he was travelling for a campaign rally.
