Nigeria as a country is set to go to the polls for a general election the sixth time after the return to democracy in 1999.

A new president and members of the National Assembly would emerge after the Saturday, February 16, election governors and members of state Houses of Assembly would be elected later on March 2.

This year election is very significant to the history of Nigeria considering the fact that the country has enjoyed 20 years of uninterrupted democracy since the military-led government handed over power to a democratically elected government on May 29, 1999.

Here are some important figures that might interest you about 2019 general elections:

1) According to INEC, there are 84,004,084 Registered Voters in Nigeria for the 2019 elections.

2) Voting would take place in 119,973 polling units spread across 8,809 wards.

3) 91 political parties are participating in the 2019 general elections.

4) The North-West has the highest number of registered voters with 20,158,100 while the South-East has the least with 10,052,236 registered voters

5) Lagos state has 6,048,156 registered voters, while Kano comes second with 5,149,070 voters.

8) 72 Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates would contest in the general elections.

7) 1,904 candidates would justle for 109 seats in the Senate, while the 360 seats in the House of Representatives will be contested by a total 4,680 candidates.

8) A total of 2,412 governorship and deputy governor candidates are contesting in the governorship polls holding March 2.

9) INEC has recruited a total of 814,453 ad-hoc staff nationwide ahead of the elections.

10) A total sum of N189,207,544,893 has been approved by the Senate for the conduct of the 2019 general election
