Seven bags of ballot papers being conveyed to Jigawa have been intercepted, Kano Police confirms.

The vehicle was intercepted by the Fagge Division of police at night and the suspects were transferred to police headquarters in Kano for interrogation.

The Spokesperson of Police in Kano, Haruna Abdullahi confirmed the report but stated that the papers were fake and that they were specimen ballot papers meant to enlighten the voters.

The special assistant to former governor Sule Lamido, Umar Danjani, laid the claim that the papers were meant to rig the forthcoming elections in Jigawa State.

Danjani further stated that the police command in Kano showed to them only one piece of the seventeen seized bags of the ballot papers, saying that they are specimen ballot papers.

They, however, insisted that the police should bring to the public forum the entire seized ballot papers for clarification.

“Even if the seized sensitive materials are meant for the specimen, it’s the INEC that authorized the people to produce the specimen ballot papers? This formed part of the questions we want the police to answer,” Dajani said.

He also claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa has uncovered a plan by the All Progressives Congress to rig elections in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer explained that two people were arrested and the police in Kano was thoroughly investigating the case.
