Here Are The Major Nigerian Newspaper Headlines For Wednesday, 13th February 2019

1. EFCC arraigns former SGF, Babachir Lawal in court

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has been arraigned before the Federal Capital Territory, High Court, Abuja, over alleged conspiracy and fraud.

Recall that Naija News had reported that the former SGF was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday.

2. Fire burns sensitive materials in INEC office located in Anambra state

Two container trucks filled with election materials have been consumed by fire in Awka, Anambra state, Naija News understands.

The fire incident occurred on Tuesday at the INEC office close to Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, with the staff of the commission running away from their offices.

3. Buhari vows that he would soon probe Obasanjo

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed that he would recover the $16 billion dollars allegedly wasted on the power sector when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power

This he said while speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential rally in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, today.

He said all those who mismanaged the money meant for the development of the sector, would be prosecuted.

4. Four days to election, SDP suspends Duke, expels Gana

Less than four complete days to the 2019 presidential election, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has expelled former Minister of Information, Prof Jerry Gana and Chief Supo Shonibare over what it described as anti-party activities.

The party also suspended the former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke for the same offense.

5. Ogun State presidential rally: APC ready to punish Gov. Ibikunle Amosun

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to sanction as many who are responsible for sponsoring violence at the Ogun State presidential rally on Monday.

The party, however, said whatever action to be taken will be after the general elections.

6. ASUP direct members to suspend strike

Polytechnic lecturers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic Staff, ASUP have suspended their nationwide strike.

ASUP thus directed its members to resume work as soon as possible.

7. Supreme Court says party cannot field candidates in 2019 elections

An appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress to challenge the judgment of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt barring the party from presenting candidates in Rivers State for the 2019 general elections has been struck out by the Supreme Court.

Ruling on Tuesday, the bench of the apex court, led by Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour struck out one of the appeals by the APC after upholding the preliminary objection filed against it by a faction of 22 members of the party loyal to Senator Magnus Abe in the state.

8. 2019 Elections: APC accuses the US of double standards and misinforming Nigerians

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council yesterday warned the United States Ambassador, Mr. Stuart Symington, and other diplomats that have been critical of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, against making further comments that are capable of undermining the integrity of the general election starting on Saturday.

The ruling party also accused Symington of threatening that his country would punish any politician who makes inciting political speeches.

9. Fight breaks out at PDP presidential rally in Lagos

Some hoodlums on Tuesday, attempted to mar the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential rally held at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.

A fight broke out among a group of boys not far from the main podium where party leaders are seated.

The incident, which happened at about 1.50pm, saw the miscreants throwing punches and chairs at each other.

10. 2019 Elections: Afenifere says Osinbajo has made himself an enemy of Yorubas

Top pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere has condemned Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over what they termed his support for the Hausa/Fulani community at the detriment of the Yoruba people.

It also declared support for the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
