In less than four days to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, an inferno has again attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Naija News reports that this is making it the third office to be attacked by inferno in two weeks.

It would be recalled that the news platform had earlier reported that two containers conveying sensitive materials for the elections went up in flames in Anambra.

Following this incident, the Independent National Electoral Commission Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Anambra state, Nkwachukwu Orji confirmed to Naija News that smart card readers among other sensitive materials meant for the general elections were burnt beyond recognition.

While speaking, Orji said he was yet to ascertain the extent of the damage.

In his words, Orji said; “I don’t have the details of how the fire started; all I know is that there was a fire incident involving the containers that house some of our sensitive materials.

“We have to do an assessment before we can ascertain the extent of damage, we have been storing equipment in that facility since 2011.”

Meanwhile, fire service officers were cited at the location to put out the fire, combined efforts of the operatives of the Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Security (DSS) were on ground to ensure safety and orderliness around the vicinity.
