Court Bars APC From Participating In Rivers Election

The Supreme Court in a judgement on Friday, has upheld the nullification of the primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.

A five-man panel of Judges led by Justice Mohammed Dattijo, dismissed the suit, and upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court.

By this judgement, the APC has been barred from fielding candidates for the general elections in Rivers state.

Naija News recalls that on January 7, 2019, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, nullified the primaries conducted by both factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing Tonye Cole, Magnus Abe and other candidates of the APC in the 2019 governorship election in the state.

However, on February 4, 2019, the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt granted a stay of execution of the Federal High Court’s judgement which prompted the Tonye Cole faction to take the matter to the Supreme Court.
