Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal on Tuesday, February 4, sacked the Commissioner of Information, Mr Bello Muhammad-Goronyo, for defecting to the All Progressives Congress.

The director -general, Media and Public Relations, Malam Abubakar Shekara, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday.

His sack comes after he decamped from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC.

“Gov. Aminu Tambuwal has relieved Barrister Bello Goronyo of his appointment as Commissioner for Information with immediate effect. “The Permanent Secretary has been directed to take over the affairs of the Ministry immediately,” Shekara said.

He explained that the decision to relieve the official of his post was sequel to the alleged sabotaging of the state government’s efforts on its laudable programmes and activities.

This is coming in about 11 days to the presidential election in Nigeria.

Until his sack, Goronyo was also the State PDP’s Campaign Council’s Publicity Committee Chairman.

The former PDP member said his defection became necessary due to many reasons which he claimed he would reveal at the appropriate time.

“I am here to formally inform the people that I have return to my real home, I have resolved to follow the president and Sen. Aliyu Wamakko for their integrity and developmental stride in the state.

“I want to assure you that the APC train has just started, as more and more passengers will join the journey before the forthcoming general election.

“Therefore, we will together continue to move the train to the nooks and crannies across the three Senatorial Districts of the state to enable us to succeed in the general election,” he said.

While ushering in Goronyo into the party, the APC leader in the state, Wamakko, commended the people for their continued support to candidates of the party. He urged all voters to be conscious and vigilant throughout the entire conduct of the election.

“On election days, the electorate should also be vigilant and ensure that, only voters who hail from their respective polling units cast their votes in the various areas.

“On those days, we should also massively cast our votes for the candidates of the party at all levels, guard them jealously until the votes are counted and duly declared.

“I have no doubt that victory is ours by this impressive turnout and support shown by the people as well as keeping the momentum across the state,’’ he said.
