Two Women Imprisoned After Killing Mother-in-Law

One Mrs. Rebecca Oladosu, who was allegedly bathed in hot water mixed with pepper by the duo of Basirat Lamidi and her daughter-in-law, Taye Lamidi, has died from the injuries she sustained in the attack.

Basirat and Taye reportedly attacked the deceased on October 30, 2018, at Okeyelu village, Ilie, in the Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State.

Naija News learned that the victim died in January this year after being hospitalized.

Both Basirat and Taye had been previously arraigned on charges of assault before Magistrate R. A. Olayemi and were remanded in prison custody.

But when the accused returned to court on Friday, February 1, 2019, the police prosecutor, Inspector Muslim Jafani, announced the death of the victim and asked the court to strike out the previous charges levelled against the accused.

Jafani subsequently substituted the former charges with two new counts of felony and murder.

The new charges read in part, “That you Basirat Lamidi and Taye Lamidi, and one other now at large, on October 30, 2018, around 1.30pm at Okeyelu village, Ilie, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; murder, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 34, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

“That you Basirat Lamidi and Taye Lamidi and one other now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did cause the death of one Mrs Rebecca Oladosu by pouring hot water mixed with pepper on her body, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 316 of the Criminal Code Vol. 34, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.”

The plea of the accused could not be taken due to the nature of the offence.

Magistrate R. A. Olayemi, in her ruling, ordered that the accused be remanded in the custody of the Ilesa Prison pending advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions.

She adjourned the matter till March 21, 2019, for hearing.
